WHY IS THIS ARENA NECESSARY? · The benefits of significant funding and construction for many other sports such as swimming and indoor tennis are taken for granted. As a whole, the region's investment is many millions of dollars in swimming pools and arenas. Yet, more people participate in Cycling than Golf, Skiing, and Tennis Combined. To serve the significant sport of cycling, one covered velodrome should be considered just as essential. · Young people can pursue another sport to develop a healthy lifestyle. We have developed a training program that would qualify motivated young participants for college scholarships and potential cycling pro contracts. Cleveland absolutely needs every opportunity to support our youth in positive ways. We need a way to find and recognize more of our local talent and support them. It will improve fitness options for residents of NE and Central Ohio during the winter. This translates into a healthier community. Avid cyclists can connect in a central place to advance their skills, and elite cyclists can train effectively all year. Recreational cyclists can enjoy several less competitive activities like league racing. There will be various youth leagues and training. As one velodrome east of Los Angeles, our velodrome would consistently draw cyclists and spectators from all Great Lakes States and further. A quality track would draw professional cyclists from all over the nation and the world. Signature events will accent Cleveland’s branding as a sports destination. It keys into other cycling initiatives presently approved. It also fits well with the idea of developing a central Urban Sports Environment, where many sports are easily accessible from the downtown area. It would help our ability to host major events such as the Nationals, World's Cup, Ohio State Games, and the Pan Am Games. The economic Impact of the Venue is significant. It will directly influence the fitness and cycling industry- it will create 55-60 new jobs. (Management, coaches, fitness and personal trainers, nutrition counselors, bike suppliers, etc.) Research shows that its most significant impact will be tourism. |
